WHAT ARE DENTURES?

There are two main types: complete dentures and partial dentures. At NorthPark Family Dentistry, we offer both types of dentures to our patients.

Complete dentures replace all of the teeth, while partial replace only some of the teeth. A person could have two complete dentures (one on top and one on bottom), two partial dentures, or one of each.

People can also wear only one denture (partial or complete) that chews against his or her natural teeth. A denture improves chewing ability and speech, and it provides support for the facial muscles. A well-made denture will give people a beautiful and confident smile.

An over-denture is a removable denture that fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth or implants. The over-denture can be fitted with special attachments that allow it to snap into place so that it doesn't move around when speaking or eating. The over-denture rests on the existing teeth or implants, rather than gum tissue, which allows people to chew hard foods comfortably.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF THEM?

Dentures, just like natural teeth, require daily care in order to stay clean and keep dangerous bacteria from growing on them. It's important to keep them clean in order to keep your smile healthy!

Just like your teeth, plaque and tartar can build up on your dentures. It's important to brush them daily and rinse them after each meal.

DENTURE REPAIR

At NorthPark Family Dentistry, our dentures are custom-made for each patient. However, as your mouth changes and adjusts to dentures, they don't adjust to your mouth. This means that as time goes on your dentures may begin to feel too loose or too tight, and/or you might experience chafing or irritation on your gums.
